A simple but overlooked tip; (especially if you feel pinched for time) but the savings do add up. If you have a large family or a close group of friends/families to divide the cost - buy flour, herbs, rice/grains, tea/coffee (you get the idea) in bulk. Preferably using a vacuum sealer (zip freezer bags if you don’t have access to one) portion out two cup measures into the storage bags, remove the air, seal and date/label. Then using baskets to help organize the bags, freeze all but what you would use within the next week. Have a “bagging” party and while the kitchen is occupied grill some veggies and meats while the kids play tag or toss bean bags.

Meats can done the same way, however make sure the bags don’t get holes or your saving will be minimal due to freezer burn.

I buy whole coffee beans and grind enough for a pot, the difference is worth the minute it takes to grind a batch. Freezing also destroys any insect eggs or larvae that may be present if the product remains frozen for over a month.
